

The Smart Start of Yadkin County, Inc. also funds programs that
focuses on improving the quality of child care facilities.
The Early Childhood Resource Center This is a
Partnership funded Child Care Resource and Referral agency. The Early
Childhood Resource Center provides information to parents about child care
options, community resources, and choosing quality child care. Child care
providers will be able to receive intensive technical assistance and
checkout items from an extensive lending library of books, toys, and theme
packets. Monthly workshops will be available to providers on various
topics, as well as CPR, First Aid, and Playground Safety. The Community
will receive information on child care supply and demand, and gaps in the

Professional Development Supplement Program This
Activity compensates low paid Yadkin County child care providers who seek
to obtain a higher level of education. The goal of this program is to
improve the quality of child care through increased provider education and
decreased employee turnover.
Child Care Health Consultant
The goal of this activity
is to improve the health and safety of children age 0-5 who attend a
regulated early childhood program in Yadkin County. A Child Care Health
Consultant will be employed to look at all areas of health and safety in
the child care environment: review of health records, health policies and
procedures, developmentally appropriate practices, sanitation, playground
safety, special health needs, nutrition, control of communicable diseases,
oral health (with the help of the local county dental hygienist),
screenings as needed, and assist providers to attain health related child
care licensing requirements. Karin Dezern
Quality Enhancement This activity assists child care
facilities in improving their quality through the use of intensive
technical assistance and grant opportunities to targeted child care
facilities.
Child Care Subsidy This activity assists parents on a fixed
income with the costs of child care. To apply for help, parents must come
to the Community Links Center in Yadkinville.
Preschool Scholarship Program
This activity provides
financial assistance for parents of 4-5 year old children who desire
preschool services through the Yadkin County schools and have a gross
monthly income of at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Full and
half scholarships are available depending on income.
More At Four This activity provides additional funds for the
More at Four Program, which offers a six hour per day, five day per week
preschool program for at-risk children the year before they start
kindergarten.
Parents As Teachers
Parents as
Teachers is a voluntary early learning support program for all interested
parents with children between the ages of birth and five. Services will
include personalized monthly home visits by a trained child development
educator, parenting workshops, and periodic health and developmental
screenings for children. The parents of Yadkin County infants at local
hospitals will receive a packet of information shortly after birth with
information about county resources, developmental stages, and information
about the Parents As Teachers program.
