| Smart Start of Yadkin County, Inc.
Smart Start of Yadkin County provides services and funding for agencies that work with families with children under age 5. The goal is for all Yadkin County children to be healthy and ready to learn when they enter kindergarten. Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm www.yadkinchild.org The Early Childhood Resource Center Offers an available Lending Library of developmentally appropriate toys and materials for parents and childcare providers of preschool age children. Also provides technical support to childcare providers to improve quality in childcare centers and homes and provides professional development supplements. Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm www.yadkinchild.org Yadkin County Work First Work First is North Carolina’s plan to help families move off welfare and into employment. To help families reach their self-sufficiency goal, Work First provides employment services, other supportive services, and time limited cash assistance to eligible families with children under the age of 18. *Appropriate referrals made to Department of Social Services* Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm www.yadkincounty.gov Yadkin County Kinship Care Program Kinship Care is a component of Work First. The program is designed for grandparents or other extended family members who are caring for children other than their own. The program offers supportive services as well as financial assistance. *Appropriate referrals made to Department of Social Services* Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm www.yadkincounty.gov Yadkin County Subsidized Childcare The Subsidized Childcare Program assists families in affording childcare. Supports goals of employment, training, child welfare and developmental needs of children. A list of enrolled providers is available upon request. Extended evening hours are available by appointment when necessary. This allows working parents the opportunity to come in without taking time from their employment. Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm www.yadkincounty.gov Yadkin County JobLink Career Center JobLink Career Center offers services to job seekers and employers at no cost. The JobLink Center does not place job seekers in employment but helps them develop the tools they need for job-search success. Individuals seeking employment and/or training can receive assistance in resume preparation, job search planning and development, employment referrals, one-on-one career counseling, and referrals to other community resources. Services to employers include: pre-employment job readiness training, access to a large base of potential employees, distribution of job listings referrals, on-the-job training incentives, and information on tax credits for hiring eligible employees. Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm www.ncjoblink.com Workforce Development Program Employment Services - by assisting individuals access the tools they need to manage their careers: basic job attainment and job-keeping skills; or assistance in improving basic education skills; or occupational skills development. All services are Labor Market driven; and are provided in a personalized/confidential format; at no charge. Activities include: Comprehensive Career Guidance; Career Assessment; Intensive Job-Search support; Résumé & Cover Letter writing guidance; understanding labor market influences; training funds *might* be available to improve existing skills or develop new ones for Local Area Demand Occupations (via GED; Continuing Education; Curriculum; On-The-Job-Training). Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm www.northwestpiedmontworks.org The Employment Security Commission The Employment representative offers job referrals and help in filing for unemployment benefits. The Employment Security Commission (ESC) is available for Food Stamps or Work First recipients to help them to comply with the specific program guidelines. The Representative has scheduled appointments during the hours he/she is at the Community Links Center. Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm www.ncesc.com Educational Opportunity Center The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) provides free assistance and information to help adults prepare for their high school diploma, GED, college and/or training programs. Administered through Surry Community College. Educational Opportunity Center Coordinator is available at Surry Community College 679-4600 Ext. 5228. Please call for your appointment today. The EOC Coordinator is at the Community Links Center on Thursdays 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. By appointment only www.surryeoc.org N.C. Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services Vocational Rehabilitation offers a variety of services to NC residents who suffer from substance abuse, physical, mental or learning disabilities. Help with job placement, vocational and classroom training is also offered. Disabled individuals can receive assistance in obtaining tools and equipment that make it easier to be independent. Services are provided to eligible customers free of charge. By appointment only http://dvr.dhhs.state.nc.us Community Services Block Grant The Community Services Block Grant Program operated by YVEDDI, is designed to assist qualified families to raise their income above the poverty income guidelines by providing services as needed. These may include any of the following counseling, job readiness, employer incentives, supportive services, justifiable transportation, and other assistance and referrals.
